Ottawa District 2 is one of the 38 Districts under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Canada in the Province of Ontario, and part of the world’s oldest (3,000 years old) and largest (six million members worldwide) fraternity—Freemasonry.
District Deputy Grand Master
The District Deputy Grand Master (DDGM) is the official representative of the Grand Master in Ottawa District 2, overseeing and supporting the Lodges within the District.

R.W. Bro. Sam Sayed is a dedicated Freemason, Shriner, businessman, husband, and father whose life is guided by service, integrity, and brotherhood. He is a proud member of The Builders Lodge No. 177 and a Noble of Tunis Shriners No. 179.
Sam believes Masonic leadership is measured not by titles, but by the Brethren supported, the harmony preserved, and the Lodges strengthened. He is committed to promoting fellowship, education, meaningful participation, and respect for tradition while inspiring future generations of Masons.
As a business owner, Sam brings these same values of honesty, accountability, and perseverance to his professional life. Above all, he is a devoted husband and proud father whose family remains at the heart of his life and inspires all he strives to accomplish.

Ottawa District 2’s 2026–2027 District Charity is The Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre which provides evidence-based live-in treatment, continuing care, and family support to youth aged 13–21 facing substance-use and related mental-health challenges.

Blood Donor Committee

Promotes blood donation throughout Ottawa District 2, encouraging Brethren, their families, and friends to give the gift of life. The committee works closely with Canadian Blood Services to support local drives and record contributions made by members of the Masonic community.

Bytown Lodge
The Brother-to-Brother Committee supports Brethren through fellowship, regular outreach, and assistance during illness or hardship, ensuring every Brother remains valued and connected.
By-Laws Committee

The Builders’ Lodge
Reviews proposed amendments to the Ottawa District 2 by-laws to ensure they are accurate, appropriate, and in proper form. The committee advises the District Deputy Grand Master on revisions and maintains alignment with Grand Lodge regulations.
Cornerstone Committee

Bytown Lodge
Promotes the Grand Lodge Cornerstone Program, which recognizes Lodges that demonstrate excellence in administration, member engagement, and community involvement. The committee provides guidance, resources, and mentorship to help Lodges achieve and maintain Cornerstone designation.

Ionic Lodge
Maintains the District’s digital tools, including the website, and email system, while assisting Lodges with their own online presence.
Masonic Education Committee

Promotes ongoing learning within the Craft, organizing sessions to strengthen ritual work, understanding, and Masonic knowledge across the District.

Supports Lodge Mentors in guiding new Masons through their journey in the Craft, sharing best practices and fostering growth, engagement, and understanding.
Regalia Committee

Maintains and inventories the District’s regalia, ensuring items are cleaned, repaired, and recirculated where possible. The committee helps preserve the dignity and tradition of Masonic regalia while promoting sustainable reuse within the District.
Relief & Benevolence Committee

Ashlar Lodge
Provides compassionate support to Brethren and their families in times of need, ensuring assistance is offered in accordance with Grand Lodge guidelines.
Strategic Planning Committee

The Long Range Planning Committee reviews past initiatives and develops strategies to guide the future growth and direction of Ottawa District 2.
Visitation Committee

The Visiting Committee promotes fellowship among Lodges across Ottawa District 2, encouraging members to attend and support one another’s meetings and events. The committee also records attendance at the DDGM’s Official Visits.
